Treble chase has finished Wayne Rooney from Manchester United career

How things have changed at Manchester United Football Club. When Liverpool won a trio of trophies in the year of 2001, Manchester United fans derided it as the solid plastic treble, and Mickey Mouse simulacra of the real thing their club had accumulated two years previously history.Manchester United

Wayne Rooney from Manchester United career:

They are not quite as derogatory in the Old Trafford stands these days. With the possibility still alive of a trio of knockout trophies, the achievement is looking more substantial by the day. A League Cup, FA Cup, and Europa League full house is no longer a mark of embarrassment. It is something to be cheered to the echoes.

Though whether the club captain plays any further part in the treble attempt appears increasingly unlikely. As United headed out to central France ahead of Wednesday evening’s Europa League tie with St Etienne, Wayne Rooney was not included in the squad.

On paper, it seemed the perfect opportunity for him to be involved. With Manchester United protecting a three-goal lead, regulars could be rested ahead of the League Cup final at the weekend. Here, surely, was a job tailor-made for Rooney’s nous and experience. Yet he was conspicuous by his absence, according to his manager unfit for action. And this despite the fact that he was seen training with the rest of the players on Tuesday morning.

For the Kremlinologists trying to read the runes emanating from Old Trafford, everything adds up to the one conclusion: Rooney will be gone from Manchester United by the time the Chinese transfer window closes on this February  28. The suggestion is, with several sizeable offers on the table, he sought some sort of reassurance from the manager that he would play a significant role in the treble pursuit before making up his mind. He did not want to go if he could be centrally involved in the pursuit of silverware. The St Etienne snub seemed to be an answer writ large.
The most amazing factor is that Rooney doesn’t want to be sitting in the stands watching his team-mates challenge for trophies on three fronts also. Better to get out now and let the rest get on with it than live with the certainty that the cameras will seek out his reaction to every incident in every match in the treble chase. For the man who won everything at United, that is not a future that appeals.

And while anyone who saw the expert manner in which he curled in that free-kick at Stoke to ensure United’s unbeaten streak was retained might think it odd that Mourinho is prepared to lose such a potentially valuable contributor to the cause, it is worth remembering this is a man thinking in the longer term.

For all the ignorant assumptions, Rooney is not stupid. He has seen the signs for some time. And he has reluctantly come to this conclusion: now is the time to go.
