Six things LSU football can do to make it to the 2017 New Year’s Six

New Year’s is long ways away and a lot can change between now and then. But as things stand today, here are six ways LSU football can make this prediction a reality and here is New Year’s Six:

LSU

  1. Go undefeated

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way. If LSU Club wins all of the games, it would not just go to a New Year’s Six games, it’ll be the number 1 seed in the playoff of College Football.

  1. Win the SEC

It’s also possible to win a Power 5 conference and miss the CFP. Ask just Penn State and also from Oklahoma. But winning the SEC guarantees LSU a berth in, at the bare minimum, a game of New Year’s Six. It doesn’t matter that the how many games Tigers lose if they win in Atlanta, they’re going to play bowling for the big one.

  1. Don’t lose the SEC championship

The SEC runner-up has never made the College Football Playoff. If we count the BCS era, the loser of SEC championship hasn’t made a major bowl game since 2009 in Florida. We’re better off not making it than we are making it and losing.

  1. Beat Alabama

Since from 2011, only one team has beaten Alabama and not gone on to play in a BCS or New Year’s Six games: That is Johnny Manziel’s 2012 Texas A&M Aggies. Beat the Tide and you will be rewarded in history.

  1. Have a top-15 defense

Eight of the twelve teams that played in New Year’s Six bowls last season had top-15 scoring defenses, but seven of which ranked in the top 10. By total yardage, six of the 15 best defenses made the New Year’s Six, including all four of the playoff College Football finals.

  1. Peak late

Losing two games in September is a lot more excusable than losing two games in November. Ask just to Penn State and Louisville. Both had great regular seasons in history, including wins and losses against top 5 opponents aslo. But here is a different between both that Penn State lost early and Louisville lost late. But Nittany Lions went to the Rose Bowl. Louisville played for the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl trophy also.
