Premier League: Wenger to extend Arsenal stay

According to various reports, it is belived that Arsene Wenger has no plans to leave Arsenal at the end of the season. The Frenchman rather looks to extend his stay by renewing his contract by two more years.

After yet another defeat at the weekend, Arsene Wenger told reporters, that he has made up his mind regarding his future, and he will reveal it very soon.
German newspaper claimed, that Arsenal made an approach for current Borussia Dortmund coach Tomas Tuchel, but these reports were soon denied by the German coach.

Arsene Wenger told reporters, that failing to qualify for the Champions League would not have as huge financial effect on the club as it would have been a few years before, thanks to the television money in the Premier League.

”My decision will not necessarily be linked with that because I’ve done the top four 20 times. It’s more, it’s not that,”

”I take a bigger perspective than that. It’s not the last result that will decide what I will do.”

”It’s not (the end of the world), not any more. That was for a long time the case, but not today. Financially, I mean.”

”Of course, on the sporting front it would be a blow, but financially the Champions League does not have the impact any more that it had five or six years ago because of the influx of the television money (to the Premier League).”

In case Wenger opts to stay at Arsenal, the news will surely divide Arsenal fans. Some fans would like to see the boss remain at Arsenal. However there are supportes, who would like to see Wenger end his long stay at the club.

As it could be seen during the weekend at the Hawthorns, a plane flown over the stadium, carrying a „No contract, Wenger out” banter. Altough not much later, another plane followed, this time with an „In Arsene we trust” sign.

Arsene Wenger joined Arsenal in 1996 from Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight. During the previous 20 years, he became the most succesful manager of the club’s history. Under Wenger, the Gunners won three Premier League titles, six FA Cups and also six Community Shields. During his days, the team has never failed to qualify for the Champions League.

There has been huge pressure from the fans and the media in recent seasons, after failing to win the league for more than ten years.

This season, Arsenal have no realistic chance of winning the league, while they were knocked out from the Champions League, yet again in the first knockout stage after two 5-1 defeats at the hand of Bayern Munich.
Their only hope for silverware is the FA Cup, where they will face Manchester City in the semi-final.
Thanks to their recent poor results in the league, their top-four finish also hangs in the air, with the Gunners currently sitting in 6th place, 6 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, but with two games in hand.
