Premier League: Prandelli turns down Leicester

Italian coach Cesare Prandelli claims that he turned down the chance to become Leicester City manager.

The former Italy boss said that he did not even sit down to talk about the vacancy, thanks to the way the club treated their former coach, Claudio Ranieri.
Prandelli told French television channel SFR Sport:

“You don’t accept a job like that,” Prandelli added. “You don’t go there [Leicester] after seeing how Ranieri was treated. I am not going there. Full stop.”

“[Ranieri is] a coach who won a memorable, historic title and is then dumped after a few months,”

Ranieri was sacked by Leicester just nine months after steering them to their first league title in England’s top division. The victory was undoubtedly one of the biggest achivement in football history. The Foxes were clear outsiders, as they were given a 5000/1 odds to become champions, but Ranieri was dismissed after sitting 17th in the table with only a point over the relegation zone.

Prandelli started his managerial career with Atalanta in the Serie A. Later he managed Fiorentina for five years, before becoming the head coach of the Italian national side. He led them to the final of Euro 2012, where the team lost to Spain. Prandelli resigned in 2014, after failing to progress from their group in the World Cup.

The Italian took over at Valencia in September, but left the post after ten games in charge, claiming that the club is not being run by „football people”.
Prandelli is not the only coach who has shown his support to Ranieri, with Jose Murinho and Jurgen Klopp also questioning the decision.

Several names were thrown into the hat to be Ranieri’s successor, but the board has opted to hire caretaker manager, Craig Shakespeare until the end of the season. Under the guidance of Shakespeare, Leicester has so far recorded three wins in the league. The Foxes also progressed to the last eight of the Champions League, after knocking out Sevilla.
