Premier League: Özil and Alexis contract talks put on hold

Arsene Wenger confirmed, that the club is yet to agree new deals with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil.

The Frenchman also told reporters, that further negotiations will be put on hold until the end of the season.
It is understood, that both Özil and Sanchez are looking for significant pay rises, and would demand somewhere around £250.000 per week. After months of negotiations, the parties are yet to reach agreements.

“At the moment we have not got an agreement,”

“We have decided to focus on the end of the season and talk about it during in the summer.

“Once you don’t get an agreement and that lasts it’s not good, so it’s better you sit down during the summer.”

Arsene Wenger’s own future is also still not confirmed, as the manager’s contract runs out in the summer. Altough Wenger confirmed that he had already made up his mind, and would make it public very soon. He also denied and agreement with PSG about taking replacing Unai Emery for the next season.

“My news is that I have no news for you,”

“No matter how long I stay I will be committed and completely focused as long as I stay at the club, so how long I stay doesn’t really matter because as long as I’m there I’m completely focused on what is to achieve the best with the club.

“At the moment we are going through a difficult period with the results so I think it is much more important to focus to get it right again.”

The supporters remain splitted over the matter, as some section of the fans would like to see Wenger go, while others wishes him to stay.
During weekend’s 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion, two planes flown over the Hawthorns stadium with banners. One was calling for the board, not to offer a new contract, the other one maintained the trust behind Wenger.
