Marcelo ‘El Loco’ Bielsa is back

‘El Loco’ is back

Marcelo Bielsa will take charge of Lille OSC on July 1st at the start of the 2017/2018 season.

The rumors have been confirmed, the legendary Argentinean manager, Marcelo Bielsa, will be returning to the Ligue 1 as the head manager of Lille Olympique Sporting Club.

Since last december the rumors about a possible comeback for ‘El Loco’ to the Ligue 1 had been circulating especially when his former assistant at Olympique de Marseille, Franck Passi, was appointed head manager of Lille last week.

Two months ago Franck Passi stated on RMC Sport that he frequently talked with Marcelo Bielsa, when asked about going to Lille he replied: “Marcelo is someone who likes to be well informed. He takes time to take decisions.”

Franck Passi main mission will be to save Lille from relegation, the club is currently sitting at 14th on the Ligue 1 table just four points ahead of Caen that is the closest team in the relegation zone.

Last time Lille won a trophy was at the 2010/2011 season when they completed the double after conquering the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup.

Franck Passi’s Statements

“I’ve chosen to be Lille coach from now until the end of the season. After that, I’ll decide my future from June 30 onwards.”

“Me, all I know is that I have a mission, 13 matches, 13 finals to keep Lille up.”

Marc Ingla’s Comments

Marc Ingla, Lille’s general director commented about ‘El Loco’: “Marcelo Bielsa is undoubtedly one of the most respected and influential coaches in the world and to succeed in attracting him to LOSC is an immense satisfaction, it is also a proof of the ambitions of our club.”

“It is no secret that Gerard Lopez and Marcelo Bielsa are close and have been discussing this opportunity for some time. We always thought that Marcelo was the best person, both for his football philosophy and his experience, rigor and professionalism, to build with us the project and the future victories of the LOSC.”

“We were able to provide him with anything he needed so that he could choose to join us. Even if we are absolutely focused on the next matches and the highly important issues of the end of the season with Franck Passi, it’s great and beautiful news what we announce today for the LOSC of tomorrow.”
